FUNGI INITIATIVE PHASE 1
The first phase of the Fungi Initiative explores the possibility of art in connecting people and facilitating conversations. In-betweenness is prompted by the news of continuous funding reductions on arts and cultural institutions and promotion of STEM-focused English Baccalaureate. We wonder whether society needs art. What is the possibility of art outside of the white cube?
As a collective, we believe the power of art does not only lie in the work itself, but also the process. Through art practising, we want to activate the space, so it is social and public where people can communicate with and learn from each other. Through artist-led workshops, we situate and adapt ourselves to different institutional structures and become the in-between of art, life and the public.
We would like to express our massive gratitude towards Barbican and Community Libraries, JISC, ILSC, LSESU, RCASU and SOAS for supporting this iteration.
The phase is led by Lina Choi, Portia Jiabao Li, Lenette Lua, Elena-Andreea Teleaga, Rie Toguchi, Sean Tseng and Sara Wu.
